Step aside, flats! Stroll on South, sandals! It’s time to make way for boots, boots, and more boots! High, low, black, brown, over-the-knee, ankle, embellished…the list goes on and on! This season you don’t have to break the bank to look stylish in your footwear. Stores everywhere from Bloomingdales to Payless are offering great looking boots in a variety of styles at a full spectrum of prices.
If you’ve ever wished for a pair of patent leather, over-the-knee boots like Julia Roberts wore in Pretty Woman, now is the time to buy because guess what – they’re back! Updated since Julia’s 1990 pair, high boots are back in Vogue. The best ways to wear them are with a pair of fashion tights and a sweater dress or skinny jeans and a tunic. I suggest investing in some Ponte-knit pants or jeggings to tuck into your rockin’ new kicks. Ponte pants have taken the denim world by storm since their chic appearance is mixed with ultra comfort. These great pants, which are thicker than your average legging, are a soft double-knit with a percentage of spandex in them to allow for a wide range of movement.
Even better, Ponte pants generally run on the larger side so you can go down a size or two! Designers from Michael Kors to Not Your Daughter’s Jeans have adapted this everyday pant for the everyday woman! Take your Ponte pant one step further on the fashion scale with a tuxedo accent strip down the side.
As everything military is back in form, combat boots are hitting the streets fast and bringing back 90’s grunge. Designers such as Vince Camuto and Stuart Weitzman have some of the freshest takes on the combat boot this year adding a great oxford stitch in the leather mixed with a clean, tight lace up. These look great paired with cargo skinny jeans in an army green or khaki color. If an ankle boot is more your style, try rolling up the cuff of your jeans once or twice, à la Rachel Bilson, showing off your footwear, while exuding a trendy urban look.
*As a matter of style: Trendy meets comfort again when you grab a great pair of boot socks and let them peep out of the top of your boot for a down to earth yet stylish feel. I suggest a fun pair such as a cable knit or ribbed pattern worn over tights with a skirt.
No matter what style or color you choose this season, be sure to invest in a protectant to keep your fabulous new purchase looking sharp. As Nancy Sinatra said, “Those boots were made for walking.” Now get going!!!
